I am just wondering if the window issue is an International Building Code issue. Years past homes were built with the louvered windows. Our old home has one louvered window that is on a door. Many states adopt the IBC within their own set of guidelines. Someone would need to research the Hawaii state Building code regulations or laws to see of the windows are still allowed. Many places only allow them in breezeways or patio type rooms, but not on the main residence.
Yes, lovered/jalousie windows are still allowed in new construction in Hawaii. So is single wall construction for that matter.
