Total crazy shot in the dark guess here... but I could only assume it's because these people come from countries that aren't as developed as ours?

98% of the entire population of the Philippines has tooth decay -

DENTAL HEALTH | 7 million Filipinos have never visited a dentist

Educating these people and introducing them to (western) cultures and lifestyles that inherently reduce the prevalence of tooth decay and providing access to dental practices that can reduce and treat decay would be a much better move than adding fluoride to our water.

Of course, their country can afford to have this quality of life for it's citizens because their government is not engaged in Permanent Warfare w/ so many countries in the world. When you don't have to feed a huge military monster, and pay to treat all the casualties of American soldiers that go off to fight Corporate Wars, it frees up a lot of money. That may seem off topic, but it is all related to why things are the way they are in America, including health care. Big Business running even the government, and war has been turned into big business. If I spend most of my money and energy fighting my neighbor, I have less energy and money to take care of myself.
Have you not noticed we have a buffoon for a Prime Minister? The cost of living is so out of control now people cannot afford the hydro bills! We are at the mercy of some git named Kathleen Wynne, the buffoon's new bestie, who's main objective it is is to drill every last bit of coin out of our pockets for her harebrained ideas. Health care is definitely not free, it's in our taxes. We are some of the highest taxed people in the world, especially in Ontario. Wait time to see Doctors can be months, to have an operation, half a year to years. Do not assume it's a cake walk in this bloody country because it isn't.

Your comment says more about you than it does the folks you are trying to demean, and it isn't pretty.

"Our medical insurance in this country is a joke, which in itself contributes to poor health, as you have to buy a totally separate medical policy for just your mouth!!!"

Most health insurance companies cover preventative dentistry including cleanings and x-rays. They do not cover fillings, extractions, root canals, orthodontists, etc.

All that being said, it's hard to find a dentist here. My daughter needed 1 impacted wisdom tooth extracted and we had to wait for the dentist to come to the big island from Oahu. It only took a few minutes and it was $700.00.
