Moving from Denver to Maui in early December. I know this question has been asked a million times and I have read almost all of them. I'm trying to find a container that's 10' - 12' long. All the UPack, PODs, etc. are 8' and I have one piece of a custom office desk that is 8' long already. We have sold most of our stuff so we don't need a big container. Matson told me $7300 for the move in a 20'. UPack is only $3300 from Denver but the dimensions are about 6" too small! I really would rather not share a container with someone else either. I have our stuff packed and ready to move. We need to ship it out in a week or two at the latest. Why are all of the pack it yourself containers so small? Any thoughts? Thanks so much!

dump the desk and buy a new one here? Unless it's really worth $4k+ to you.

If I can't find somewhere it fits for less, I guess I'll sell it and get it remade. Would be cheaper...

extra $4k shipping is an expensive pill to swallow.

IDK if it would be cheaper to get remade in Hawaii. with the typical Hawaii markup, probably cost you double what it did in Denver.

didn't mention it earlier, but if the desk is 8' and the container 12', shouldn't you be able to fit it? desks are relatively thin, except for the drawer section, you can stack a lot of crap on it? You don't have other, more convenient stuff to exclude than the huge desk?

the problem is that I can't find anyone with a 10-12' container. I can find a 7' or a 20'.

I also love these places like DHX that want me to measure and weigh everything exactly. How on earth do I do that... Looks like I'm going to have to go with a cube some way, somehow...

1) Get the 20'
2) Fill the extra space with top-selling Ikea and Trader Joe stuff
3) ????
4) Profit

I also have the option of a 16 foot POD for $6000. Seems really high for a cheap POD. Does Pack Rat (1-800-Pack-Rat) ship to Hawaii? Is it generally a lot cheaper to ship with a LTL?

That's a linear dimension, what happens if you put it in the container on an angle? Get the interior dimensions of the cube you want to use and then hang strings from your office ceiling (or stand up broomsticks at the corners or whatever to mark the space) and then see if you can get your desk to fit inside that cubic space. You may want to verify the opening size of the doors, too.

Does the desk come apart?

Can it be crated up and shipped on a pallet?
