I live on Oahu most times when it rains and water ponds I will always get my share and then some of mosquitos. As to late they seem to have gone aWOL. At my job their presence has diminished as well.

Has anyone noticed the as well?

You're lucky. I can't take a step out of my house on the Big Island without getting swarmed by mosquitos. Having the county been spraying where you live?

They are around on Kaua'i, but I don't notice them. Regardless of where I am, mosquitoes aren't attracted to me, I think I've had one bite since moving in August. Last time I was at blue room across from Ke'e Beach they were flying all over and my friends were getting bit up.

Their populations seem to wax and wane in my area.

We're wet, with 20 inches in December and 145 for 2016, but not a lot of mosquitoes lately. I was wondering if it had anything to do with efforts to eradicate dengue, but probably not.

We were in Hilo for 10 days and Kona 2 days through Thanksgiving this year and I only got 3 bites and my GF 1. Most nights at the hotel we slept with the slider open (no screen) and never used bug spray. Every day was spent outside the majority of the time - Hamakua coast, Puna, Hilo, Kona, etc and we really expected to get eaten alive. I don't know why but the mosquitoes just weren't there like we expected. Lucky us.

I'd be more worried about spiders, cockroaches, or a centipede in your shoe rather than mosquitoes

Quite unlikely to make their way in overnight. Coqui frogs, on the other hand, I would expect.
