There's a tree in my backyard that has these fruits, and I haven't been able to figure out what they are. Any ideas? I'm on Kauai, if it makes a difference. Thanks!

That is cerainly not strawberry guava, you don't have enough resolution on street view to tell the difference.

It is puakenikeni, the fruit is almost certainly not edible, it is grown for its distinctly fragrant flowers to make lei. Here is the Wikipedia article, though not very descriptive of the fruit:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fagraea_berteriana

I actually don't know the fruit of it, I just looked at google image results until I found this one that describes it:

Subliminal Intervention: Progression Obsession-Puakenikeni

I got in touch with the previous homeowner last night and she confirmed that it is puakenikeni. I then spent about an hour on Google trying to find out if the fruit are edible or not, and couldn't come up with anything either way. Everyone talks about the flowers but doesn't mention much about the fruit, so I think I won't tempt fate Thanks everyone!

the birds or pigs don't eat it? If not, that pretty telling.

Yes. We've always called it a perfume flower tree. Don't know if it's "poisonous" but we've been told not to let our goats eat it. It grows well with little care.
