Hello All

Is it possible or easy to live in Hawaii (esp. Maui, Kauai, Oahu) and get locally grown ORGANIC fruits/nuts/seeds?

I am concerned about avoiding GMO and eating only organic fruits/veg./seeds. Is GMO big on Mauai, Kauai or is Organic bigger?

Also, are organic fruits/veg/seeds affordable compared to New York city (my current residence)? ( I have been to Big Island already)

I am Fruitarian and that is what I eat.
Thank you.

It is the tropics - Hawaii is one of the most heavily utilized GMO places in the world.

Can't speak of locally grown organic, but you can definitely find organic fruits/veggies here, even if you have to pay a bit of a premium for it.

If you live in a house and not an apartment, you could grow most of what you wanted to eat in your yard, I'd expect. If not, at the farmer's markets, there's usually folks that have grown or harvested the fruits. You could ask them if there were GMOs involved.

Most papaya now is GMO, I think. But you can get non-GMO seed and grow it easily. Coconuts are not GMO. Guava & lilikoi aren't GMO. Corn is frequently. Some of the stuff is hybrid, but that's not GMO.

A lot of it depends on what the specific crop/fruit is.

I'm not trying to be funny: The only Hawaiian fruitarian I know of had a reaction caused by his diet and almost died. My suggestion would be to try this unnatural diet somewhere where the climate produces less sugars.

And if you get a numbing sensation in your lower limbs, call 9-1-1. Humans can't live off a diet fitting for a hummingbird.

Nail struck squarely on head. Eat normally, not abnormally.

Yes but it won't be cheap unless growing your own.

Hummingbirds (all birds) are naturally grainivorous. Humans are natural frugivores. But dis-ease is caused by emotional trauma and stress....

I think you mean granivores (Seed Eaters). Having photographed Hummingbirds for a few years now I can tell you they love to eat small insects in addition to nectar. I've never seen them eat fruit despite having a peach tree as one of their favorite perches between trips to the nectar.

I think humans qualify most properly as BalancedDietivores with a mix of meats, grains, meats, vegetables, meats, fruit, meats and other stuff such as meats and mincedmeat.
