I've started up thread concerning the prevalence of violence in the Californian , Australian , and New Zealander surf scenes , so I thought I might as well start one up concerning the state of Aloha .

So what's the deal with violence in the surfer scene in Hawaii ? Is it common or more of a past memory ?

Depends on the break and the surfers, some are more territorial than others. If you're a visitor, especially one learning to surf, then surf Waikiki, no worries there.
