Starting to look at furloughs again: 10% pay cut for 3 years. Also looking to claw back recent raises. My opinion, this is just the tip of the iceberg if the Feds don't bail out states
Probably just an accident since ige is such a doofus, but the timing at first glance is to give him time to play more wait and see games.... to see if his panhandling with the feds is going to pay off.
It is actually less than 10% - the bargaining units get their pay raises - and 1 day off every 2 weeks is a bit less than 10% cut
Yeah, it's technically not a paycut if it's a furlough. Opening negotiations with the unions at 10% is probably not a good start. Why is our governor so spineless? Lingle had more balls.
There will be an announcement soon to start furloughs in January.
Unions want employees exempted from furloughs who are paid from special funds - so negotiations continue. Won't be a good look if lets say Department of Transportation (funded by special funds) don't get furlough versus DOE which is general funds. The problem is - compared to last furlough, programs funded by Special Funds are getting crushed also - one has to look at Aloha Stadium as a program funded by Special Funds as an empty stadium not hosting any events - or Dept of Transportation funded by gas taxes, people aren't driving like they did before, etc....

My wife was telling me this last week, announcement soon to start furloughs in January.
A 10% cut on a $60,000 salary is different than a 10% cut on a $300,000 salary. What am I cutting out if I have $270,000 vs what am I cu$54,000 to spend.

There are only a handful of State employees who make over $200K and the are mostly Doctors/Surgeons at the State hospitals
