According to noontime news today, Oahu is receiving around 3,000 arrivals a day and close to 1,000 of them are "visitors". Not surprising that our Covid-19 case count is rising.
I've not seen any reports the spike in cases are from tourists.
On the news this morning - funerals, gatherings such as church services, multigenerational families, parties/barbeques, gyms - have been part of the spikes.
In true Hawaii style - State reports 53 known cases today, but doesn't really know how due to "technical difficulties" with lab reporting system. Seriously, technical difficulties - again?

You seemed pretty adamant a couple weeks ago that the state was completely capable to test incoming arrivals to the tune of several thousand a day. Do you still think that is the case?

I did? Or, did the Lt Gov?
Lt. Gov. Green says right now, the state has a maximum capacity to test about 5,300 samples a day, but the most they’ve done was 2,300.
It was reported on Hawaii News Now's site that the 53 positive tests came from 494 tests conducted.
If that is correct, it represents a positive rate of a little over 10%. That is a potential wake up call.

Why? Even if we had 500 cases a day, I just don't see why that is a big deal with a population of about a million people. About .02% of the State has gotten this.
You know this site keeps a history of posts, right?

Why can't it happen?
I've signed an emergency order that allows residents in the State of Hawaii to end quarantine upon arrival to the State once results of a negative Covid test is received that has occurred at a testing site within the State. Here is a list of testing locations by islands...blah blah blah
See, I've even written the order for him.
We have capacity for 5,000 tests a day (about to go up with pooling) with about 600 residents arriving per day. We can test them.
There were several follow-up posts where we debated how feasible that really was back then.
You may have been just parroting what the Lt. Governer was saying, but you seemed well convinced.
To now disavow having said it seems a bit disingenuous.

It is a big deal because 500 won't taper off at 500. Once again, this is a novel virus, i.e. no vaccine, no known immunity and highly contagious. It will grow in number, and 500 cases a day would overwhelm the hospital capacity within a matter of weeks.
So, what was the point you were trying to make with your post earlier today where you were criticizing the "technical difficulties". It seemed you were saying there is a lot of expected incompetence "In true Hawaii style". I don't know how you can believe that and at the same time believe we could reliably test 5000/day like a well oiled machine when advocating for opening up to tourism. There seems to be a cognitive dissonance in your positions.
