Maybe 3 in 4 residents are not native Hawaiians and dont care much for the local landmarks. They just there for the lifestyle they saw on Hawaii Five-O.

The Blue Room? Skygate? When Rainbow River is a choice it's like designed to elicit incorrect responses.

I mean they literally say "not-so-well-known local landmarks."

Especially when it comes to a densely populated island like Oahu, these findings aren't surprising. Outside of the well-known landmarks like Diamond Head, Hanauma Bay, Waikiki Beach, etc., I would not expect most to know many of the places they mentioned. At least certainly not by picture.

3 obscure locations on Oahu, and one in another state leads to an eye-catching headline.

BFD.

Lame from start to finish but designed to reflect poorly on locals.

I took the point of the article to be that Hawaii Public Schools don't make any effort to teach students about some of the basics of the State. I guarantee when you grow up in the Chicago suburbs you know of the Picasso even if you've never been downtown.

I've actually been/seen all those places and didn't even grow up here.

I taught many kids in suburban Maryland (as in right next to DC, some of whom who went to school there for a few years, whose grandparents still lived there and who still went to church in the city) who couldn't identify most of the national monuments/memorials in Washington.

In California I taught dozens, if not hundreds of high school kids who had never seen the Pacific Ocean even though it was less than 2 hours away.

A Jr. College biology field trip I attended included some young ladies who had never touched snow even though it was less than 30 minutes away from our homes every winter.

Some people lead lives with very narrow scope.
