I love the beach & the mountains. Family time is always #1. They need to be included. Fishing, hunting, swimming, going to the park or just taking a cruise around the island or even a potluck. Family/friend visits on the other end of the island can also be fun. It all beats going shopping and running yourself broke. It all can't be fun and games though cause we can't neglect our chores around the home.

Sitting on my lanai, watching the day drift by, cold beverage in hand, doing some writing, and worrying about the rampant cannibalism. Can it possibly get any better than that. And, paddling on my racing kayak, chasing whales during the season, hoping they don't chase back. Has happened!!!! Nothing like having a whale calf nudge your boat, out of curiosity, I guess, and then,,,,,,,,HERE COMES MOM!!!!!!!!! WHOOPS,,,,,GOTTA HELE!!!!!!!

Aloha

Eat.

Explore.

Hike.

Spend time with friends, doing something or nothing.

Sit in the sand on the Kohala coast.

Work in our yard with the kitties keeping us company (not really a favorite thing, until the work part is over, then we relax and plan the next project.)

(We went to Hilo Bay Cafe this weekend. One of the best meals I've had in a while--if you are there when Matt is bartending, order his almond-ginger martini! We tried Kaleo's in Pahoa for the first time a week or so ago. Best service we've had in a restaurant in ages--very professional and "on it". Food was pretty good too!)

Drop the kids at Hanalei pier (where they have a ball, jumping off the pier over and over and over...) and head up to Tunnels for some awesome snorkeling, then lounging on the beach trying to remember all the cool fish we saw.

Having a yummy dinner (fresh grilled ahi, maybe, with some fresh fruit), with good dark chocolate for dessert, and hanging out on the lanai drinking wine and shooting the breeze with friends and family until the cows come home (or the roosters start crowing).

Geocaching.

Working on the house.

I'm sure I'll come up with a few more - I haven't even been here a month yet.

Camping at Polihale is my favorite thing to do. The beach is gorgeous (albeit un-swimmable for the most part) and you generally don't see too many people, except for trucks coming and going. Just up the fishing poles, cook some portuguese sausage, drink some beer and just relax. Fall asleep under the moon and stars and listen to the waves crashing....can't wait for this weekend!

Oh yeah, Polihale is on my list of places to check out. I've heard the stars there are A-maz-ing.
