Hi! I am moving to oahu in dec. and I was wondering if anyone knows of a cheap shipping co or moving co? My "junk" is less than a container. Like what they say less than 2-3 cubic metter. I have an ikea drafting desk , ikea poang chair, 5 small boxes and two medium boxes.
I read some threads and saw that Matson is good but they don't ship small parcel. I am thinking that I need to give up my desk and chair and just do boxes at the post office... I don't know what to doo....

Sorry I am brand new to this. I'd Really appreciate it if anyone can give me some good advice.

oh the reason I'm moving is because my mom lives there alone. Somebody gotta keep her company you know?!

thanks

You can probably find a good desk & chair when you get here. Craigslist has it all, and for cheap.

I sent a lot of stuff parcel post. It was slow, but it all got here, and it was cheap. So that's definitely a good option.

If you love your Ikea stuff, though, you won't be able to replace it. No Ikea here, and they don't ship to Hawaii. (Their website says they're working on it.) I left behind an Ikea dresser / desk combo that would really be handy now. It didn't seem worth shipping, but I can't find anything similar here or even get a new one. Not a big deal for me, but it might be something to think about.

Depending on where you're moving from and to, you might look into sharing a container. You could post here with more details of your starting & ending location, or post on Craigslist.

Good luck!

newUHprof is right, IKEA doesn't ship to Hawaii. But there are some freight forwarders who will.

If you don't have too much, and your desk can be broken back down to flat for shipping, Google the words:
freight forward hawaii
-or-
freight forwarder hawaii

You will find services that specialize in smaller loads. Get a price based on your projected cubic feet & weight, then decide if you really want those things. It sounds like you've pared down your stuff to pretty small, but of course you should look at the cost and whether you can (or would) replace those things here.

I know of one place that offered shipping of IKEA items to Hawaii -
Bonjour Design - 16920 S. Main St. - Gardena, CA 90248.
Shereka.White@memo.ikea.com
I haven't used them, but they were adverstising a lot and are mentioned on the IKEA Fans | IKEA Stores, Furniture and Kitchen Information forum. Yes, it's a forum for people who like IKEA stuff or need help with it.

I mention the above because you can find out what it would cost to have replacement items shipped out if you didn't bring your things now and couldn't find them here later.
