Thought this might be interesting, just when do you really know that Hawaii is the place for you? I know there have been endless threads here about "Will I be okay as a white person in Hawaii??",,, "Is it really expensive to live in Hawaii?",,, "What's the weather like on different Islands??",, "Ten things I hate most about living on Oahu?", the all time classic, "Are there really cannibals in Hawaii?", well, how about, "Just when did you realize Hawaii was the place for you?, When did it finally "click", and you knew you were home?" Just a few thoughts from 30 plus years here,

You know Hawaii is the place for you, when,

You finally slow down, don't try to pass cars on the road anymore.

Figure out that Hanalei poi, although pricey, is the only sidedish with lau lau or kalua pig

Grow your own Hawaiian chili peppers, cause what's the sense having poi, lau lau, and kalua pig without Hawaiian chili pepper water, as a seasoning?

Your "shaka" finally loosens up, you don't "throw" the shaka anymore, you just kind of "toss" it, all malie, as in relaxed

You let other drivers onto the road, without thinking twice about it, and toss a shaka at them

You say "howzit" instead of "Aloha", kind of the same thing anyways

You know what "ho'omanawanu'i" means

You can "out pidgen" most of da local bruddahs an sistahs, but don't bother

You find a centipede, cane spider, or scorpion in your hale, and just escort it out

You know what "Hale" means

You don't mind being called a "Haole", a ####### Haole is a different matter

You know about twenty ways to prepare Spam, and are working on others

Spam musubi is just fine for breakfast, with a touch of shoyu

When it gets below 70 degrees you start looking for a sweater

Obnoxious tourists no longer bother you

A lot of local kids call you "Uncle", especially if you're out paddling, an, dey like "Try em", as in your kayak

The cost of groceries just becomes a fact of life, you'll deal with it

You no longer use the AC, what's a ceiling fan for anyways???

You've watched every episode of "Magnum PI", and recognize every spot where it was filmed

You can't even imagine living on the mainland,, (where is that anyway's)

You learn a new Hawaiin word or phrase every day

And, finally, you know, in your Pu'uwai and uha'ne, as in heart and soul, that you are, indeed, home,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Just a thought,

Aloha and okolemaluna

Hawaii is one of the best places in the world to appreciate natural beauty, laid back folks and enjoy sunsets beyond compare. I hope the gods of volcanoes don't get too active in my lifetime. Hawaii is a national treasure and one which I cherish, both it's people and vistas.

Same here! Hawaii is one of my most favorite states. I'd love to see it sometime.
