Aloha,

I am thinking to stay in Hawaii for a while to improve my health. As reading this forum, I found some people say there are many residencial crime in Hawaii.
How serious is it? Any advice to prevent? If you have experienced, would you mind to share?

Thanks.

SF

i live in kona, i have zero expirience with crime. my neighbors and myself all leave doors unlocked and never have had a problem. some of them don't even have doors! but i also live in a neighborhood that is pretty crime free. you can go 8 blocks down and have a big problem with crime. maybe it's all in where you end up living within the town.

Default Thanks

What a nice to hear. Thank you for your post.

I understand there is always things happen in this world. Juneau where I live is not an exception. Here we have "Snow Birds" that come back only summer time. Our summer is absolutely beautiful, but it is only for a few months. It makes some houses empty for months, sometimes invites crime. Normally, here is very very quiet and safe depends on area.

We all want Hawaii safe and peaceful as we dream.

As with any neighborhood,
Don't leave luring items laying around..
Ever think of getting an outdoor dog? The weather is perfect for dogs!

Lock your doors, get an alarm and get to know your neighbors- the same response I would have given for ANY of the places I have lived.

I did notice a lot of people have dogs here, is that why, to discourage would-be thieves? I see lots of pittbulls, that must be the breed of choice here!
