Aloha,
On a less serious note! I find this kinda funny not to replace the land .

If a hurricane blows your land away I dunno if I would rebuild?

If a fire burns you land away ? Hmm what would you do fill the hole?

If an earthquake splits your land you would have to get it surveyed to see if you really have more land? could be good

If a Tornado twists by and takes you land ?Well I guess you get to line in a ditch which means drainage could be a problem.

Now if a flood sweeps all your land away then for certain drainage will be a problem.

So If Lava flows all your land away (Dunno if that would happen it would just park on your land cool and chill) I guess you just build on top and have a better view!

Sorry just thought it funny

There is no lava insurance, per se. Insurance is offered as a fire/homeowners policy and will only pay out if your home burns. If your house is not destroyed, but isolated by lava and not habitable they will NOT pay out. They will not replace the land since it still exists.

Actually that really is happening now. There is a subdivision called Kalapana Vacation Lots that is built right over Kalapana gardens, buried in 1990. There are some new houses built 50' on top of the old neighborhood. The new sub. even has the same layout & street names as the old one.

We also have earthquakes and Tsunami's so volcano's aren't the only consideration. Where there is volcano activity there is also VOG....you know like smog except this stuff is also filled with fine particles of glass and when it rains it is considered acid rain. We are out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Yes it is paradise but we have issues just like anywhere else except you can't get on a major highway and get out of the way. Preparedness is underrated meaning here you need to be prepared for just about anything. At least we don't have snakes. Oops take that back I think we finally managed to get a Phillipino snake that looks like a worm but is actually a snake, harmless. We have many beautiful things. But if you are considering buying land on BI or anywhere near a known volcano you might want to look at what you are purchasing before you buy.

Insurance Hawaii - Dan De Soto with Mutual Underwriters Hilo offers insurance for home, office, and more!

I will find the one friend just went with that lowered her rate in Lava 2 over $600 with Hurricane but they freaked all out when she said she had a dog. Set up an appointment and if you have a dog hide it or take to someone else during appointment. It was a big deal to insurance company. I think it was Century but I will verify.
