I found this washed up on the shore near Hana, Maui. Any ideas what it says or what it is?

I am no expert in any way. My guess would be a grave headstone maybe...? Seen ones like that in grave yards on BI.

Do the following.

Stand it up.

Rub Dirt over the characters.

Rub off excess dirt

Take new and higher resolution photo.

If not, the characters are impossible to read save for ka-fu in katakana at the bottom of the leftmost column. My eyes are not that good!

did you take it home or leave it there? if you took it home I would take it somewhere where some one can read the scrip. a school perhaps or a club. if it is a head stone I would call the cemetery and see if they are missing one and return it if you took it home. my guess is that there could still be family on the island most people in that area have been there for generations. it does indeed look very old. good luck

There is one person on here that I know that can read Kanji. If possible, do a rubbing of it so you can get all the characters.

it is very likely it is a head stone. I hope it can be returned to the proper place.
