After I paid the rent for "A vacation apartment"
advertised at olx.com, "the owner" told me to pay:

1. Governent Realestate Tax: $150

2. Application fee/tenancy ID: $850 (Fully Refundable)

3. Renters Insurance: $200.

Making a total of $1,200

I think I got conned already and kissed my money
good-bye. But when I think about it,
since the ****** says sending the money using
Western Union is OK,
I may be able to trap him, with some help from the
local police...
Can people in the know give me some advice?

mac

Sounds fishy. Doesn't help now, but this is why we often recommend certified, reliable rental sites like VRBO and HomeAway. Sorry for your trouble.

If paying by WU, good chance the place is fake. The money is going overseas where your local police can't do nothing They get your money, you get zip!.

We found our condo on Craiglist. WE HAVE THE BEST LANDLORD IN THE WORLD!!!

After I talked to our landlord, I called the condo's homeowner's association. I talked to the president, verified that yes, __ __ owned the condo. Right name, right phone #, right mailing address.

Then I mailed the certified check.

Lisa ;-)

Hi Mac Nak,
Could you please provide the name of the broker you were dealing with?
Were you victim of a scam indeed?

We are facing a similar situation...
Regards, JFS.

Default hmmm...

Sounds like you sure did get scammed, so far. Do you have an address for the rental? I think it probably wisest to forward this scam to the agencies provided on Craigslist and then move-on, hopefully, much wiser from this experience. Next time, get a name address and phone number of 'owner' and call them to confirm. Also ask for contact info for HO and confirm w/them as well.
