Gynecology isn't listed as a specialty provider by Medicare.gov for my area.

Does anyone know? I did a search of the retirement forum for this but didn't see anything. Not cancer related or such. Just a regular exam. I have an internal medicine doctor, but I want a gynecologist.

We don't know what's specific to "your area". Maybe you need to re-word your search parameter. A cancer screening exam could include general wellness at the same time...

In general, Medicare covers:

Medicare Part B covers a Pap smear, pelvic exam, and breast exam once every 24 months for all women. You may be eligible for these screenings every 12 months if:

You are at high risk for cervical or vaginal cancer
Or, you are of childbearing age and have had an abnormal Pap smear in the past 36 months
Medicare may consider you at high risk for cervical or vaginal cancer if:

You were sexually active before age 16
You have had five or more sexual partners
You have had a sexually transmitted infection
Your mother was given the drug diethylstilbestrol (DES) during pregnancy
You have received fewer than three negative Pap smear or no Pap smear within the past seven years

Thanks. I haven't had a pelvic exam at all, so it seems I just need to call around to find a gynecologist who accepts Medicare.

Thanks so much.

It occurs to me that gynecologist wasn't listed in the "specialty" doctors in Medicare.gov because a gynecologist is a Primary Care Dr., not a specialist. Maybe that's it.

I had to make sure that my Pap smear was listed as high risk to get it paid for annually.

I am a DES daughter and we are prone to breast, cervical and vaginal cancer.

Genecology is listed under Obstetrics/gynecology.

I found only ONE female gynecologist who accepts Medicare in my city, but she has terrible reviews/ratings. So I'll have to go out of town an hour away! What a pain.
