This may be company specific...not sure...but our daughter was just hired into the company my husband works for. Can she still stay on our insurance (she's 23 yrs old) or will she have to have her own? She actually has been working for this same company as a Kelly Contractor and was on our insurance instead of what Kelly offers - but not sure if she can still be now that she is officially an employee of the same company as my husband.

(Edited to add: it would seem she should be able to because spouses that work for the same company can be on the same insurance policy...but someone has told my daughter she has to have her own insurance. She will be inquiring further, but just wondered if anyone here would know for sure.)

Assuming coverage is the same, what about the changes in payroll deduction (premium) ?

In some cases, the drop in "family" coverage would be more than her having her own "single" premium.

It will depend on the employer's eligibility rules. Many employers will not allow the employee to be covered as an employee AND as a dependent on another employee's plan that works for the same company. Check with HR.

The reason companies do this is they do not want to pay the same claim twice. They would have to process the claim as primary under her ID number and then process as secondary under your husband's ID. Everyone wants to save money these days.

Thanks for the input. Now that I think of it, I may have had my own coverage when I worked at the same company as my spouse. I was thinking we were covered under the same policy but perhaps not - it was a LONG time ago. We will just have to follow up with HR. Thanks again.

I worked for a University Health System in a college town where it was very common to have multiple members of the same family work for the University. They required each to have the "Employee Only" coverage rather than "Employee Plus Spouse". TBH, I can't remember which employee they wanted to have responsibility for minor dependents though....

Thanks, I think that is what we are learning as we research further.
