I am fortunate to be covered by CHAMP VA for health insurance since my husband is 100% disabled from the military.
June 2019 -We found out that I had this benefit
When the cards arrived we discovered I had actually been covered since June 2018.
During the period from June 2018 thru June 2019 I was paying for my health insurance thru a COBRA plan. Since I was out of network I had to pay the first 8K. (I looked for other plans, but I would only save about $50 per month and the out of pocket was 10K).
So any medical bills I paid from June 2018 to June 2019 I was able to submit to CHAMP VA. I sent everything in and they rec'd it Aug. 2019. They returned everything to me in Dec 2019 because the paperwork was missing the tax ID number. I got the tax ID numbers and returned the paperwork. They rec'd the paperwork on Jan. 31, 2020.
They scanned all my paperwork into the system in March 2020.
I won't go into all the details, but I call frequently, keep notes as to what is told to me. Currently, I have a TASK# and the customer service reps can easily see my claims. I am usually told it will take about 30 days to process.
I called on Friday and was told I shouldn't call back until at least Oct. (4 months)- there is a backlog and it will probably take at least 6 months. I am owed approx. $4K.
Has anyone ever had this situation? The cust service reps are very polite and try to be helpful. They tell me there is no one else I can discuss the situation with, there is always a backlog and this is the procedure.
