They found that for people with hypertension, eating chocolate could reduce the blood pressure by up to five per cent. For those with normal pressure it had no effect. "This is a significant finding," said Dr Ried.
I'd have to disagree that 5% is "significant." That's a small change.

Hey, hey, let's not judge too hasty now, 5% sounds like I should go for some chocolate and think positive......

Chocolate contains high amounts of caffeine which is known to raise homocysteines which is known to cause atherosclerosis.............. which is the #1 cause of high blood pressure.

Have you ever read the package inserts on BP medicines? Many of them are in the similar range! Why do you think folks wind up on 2-3 different meds at the same time?

I dunno about the caffeine homocysteine artherosclerosis linkage?

Really? Interesting. I know a few people with high blood pressure and it's by well more than 5%.

Also note is says "up to" 5% - ie odds are it will help significantly less.

Not that I'll stop eating chocolate either way.

120/80 is considered optimal blood pressure. 90/60 is somewhat low. When my husband, whose pulse runs very low, gets 90/60 b/p readings he is dizzy and nearly passing out.

Chocolate is not very good for your stomach, too acidic and if you eat it charged with sugar like most Americans do, not very good for your high blood pressure if you gain weight.

I love hot chocolate though, but real cocoa, not those processed products loaded with sugar that they sell here. I can't drink it though
