has anyone had one removed from the neck? How was the surgery. I may have to get this lump removed and I'm scared to go see a dr. about it.

How do you know it is a thyroglossal cyst? If that is what it is, it is totally benign and removal should be relatively simple.

Here is some info (aimed at children since it is most often diagnosed in childhood): Thyroglossal Duct Cyst

I know what it is because I still have papers from my pediatrician long time ago that diagnosed it. I've had it since I was 3, but doctors said they couldn't remove it because I had to wait until I was an adult. Don't know why, but I know kids have them removed now. It was back in the 70's so who knows.

Now it's starting to bother me so I just got back from the doctor and he's sending me to get an ultrasound.

Here's another link: Thyroglossal Duct Cyst (http://www.thyroidcancer.com/thyroglossal-duct-cyst.html - broken link)

It has some photos of the procedure, but not too graphic. It looks as if it would only take a few minutes and leave a small scar. I know the idea of any surgery is scary, but I think the risks from this would be tiny. let the surgeon know your fears. I am sure s/he will answer all your questions.
