I've been reading quite a bit lately about BPA ''supposedly'' leaching into canned food products as it's part of the liner inside them. I admit that i do eat alot of canned mackerel and black beans and so now i'm confused about whether i should continue consuming them or not ??
I hope to hear from all sides here as all are welcome as i'm not sure if this is an legitimate concern or is this just being over blown by some pundits etc.

Well, canned food is not the best in general, but if you eat it at least be careful with dented and damaged cans.
While extremely rare, a toxin produced by Clostridium botulinum is the worst danger in canned goods. NEVER USE food from containers that show possible "botulism" warnings: leaking, bulging, or badly dented cans; cracked jars or jars with loose or bulging lids; canned food with a foul odor; or any container that spurts liquid when opening. DON'T TASTE SUCH FOOD! Even a minuscule amount of botulinum toxin can be deadly.
Can linings might discolor or corrode when metal reacts with high-acid foods such as tomatoes or pineapple. As long as the can is in good shape, the contents should be safe to eat, although the taste, texture and nutritional value of the food can diminish over time.
Canned beans are really full of salt though. Whole foods has some no salt black beans.....just to consider. They also have some tomotoes in BPA free cans.

My guess is that unless you are using canned products in large amounts, the risk is small. I expect manufacturers are going to be under pressure to eliminate BPA from contact with food.

Thanks for the info Sierra and yeap as my sisters and i were taught by our mom when we were kids about the dangers of bulging or badly dented cans and botulism.
Hmm ... so maybe just the acidic foods are to worry about the leaching BPA?

Yeap i wish i had an Whole Foods or Wild Oats as when i lived up in Albuquerque and so now living in a small town in southern New Mexico until next year as i currently have just one grocery store i.e. Lowes Market and so my food choices are really bad. We don't even have ''grass fed'' beef as that's the biggest reason why i usually consume canned salmon or mackerel (chicken of the sea brand).

Thanks for the link Suzi ... i guess i could always just eat eggs as my main protein and just have more fruit or even brown rice for my workout carbs instead of legumes.
I just checked their site as a case of 12 is $19.98 (1.66 a can) and $13.00 shipping and so i just checked Amazon also and sure enough they sell Eden brand by the case there too at $21.30 and i'm a Prime member as the shipping is free and so i just placed an order of a case as i should have it by saturday.
However i still should do what Grannynancy suggested in the near future and just buy a large bag of them as it's cheaper as i just need to not be lazy when it comes to cooking.
Thanks again everyone
