My mom, 81 is in pretty good shape and health, she walks and does water exercsie 3 times a week. In Toronto, where she lives, her ankle, especially the left one is quite swollen. Her doctor is aware of it and I think believes that it's to do with her heart and blood pressure etc.
Here's the questions, she flew out to visit me in AZ, and here, at 4500 feet of elevation, in a dry climate, her ankle was not swollen at all but as soon as she got back home it swelled up within 24 hours.

Was it the elevation? Any other ideas?
Thanks!
I had a similar problem when I lived in NY. When I moved to Las Vegas it got better. It could be blood pressure related or have something to do with the difference in the weather. Does she favor the right leg when she walks? This will put extra pressure on the other leg which might cause the swelling as well. Have her see a foot & Ankle specialist.

Thanks for your answer, she does have blood pressure issues and takes meds but it definatley seems to have something to do with altitude or climate. Interesting that you had the same thing.
I live in AZ and have had the left ankle swollen problem along with high blood pressure, so not quite sure. Could be something else. Maybe just being more active to come to visit?
