I don't think that has been proven to be true. As already mentioned, you can inherit the gene from either parent.

The only remedy I have ever heard of is finisteride (Propecia, Proscar), although it MAY cause sexual side effects. Other than that there's hair transplants, just look at Joey Lawrence's hair now.

I think it's *usually* true but not always true that a bald maternal grandfather means you will go bald too. My mother's brothers had widely varying degrees of hair loss at different ages, although most had some late in life anyway. AFIK they all had the same maternal grandfather -

OP, there are exactly 2 FDA approved anti-male pattern baldness drugs - Propecia and Rogaine. Propecia acts by defeating the enzyme that turns testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which is the hormone behind MPB.

Rogaine works by reducing the "resting" phase of a hair follicle, making them grow more of the time, by a chemical mechanism that to the best of my knowledge is not well understood.

Beyond these, there is anecdotal evidence that shampooing 2-3X per week with Nizoral shampoo can help with MPB.

Hair loss can be a side effect of some other health problem, better check with a doc (you will need to see a doctor to get a perscription for Propecia anyway).
