My husband was diagnosed with this problematic disease over 10 years ago. It does go in cycles and you will learn what sets yours off. His can be alarmed by weather changes, blinking lights and sounds, and too much computer usage. On more than one occasion I have been summoned to the ER because he passed out or collapsed and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Do you have the noise in your ear or ears yet? Hubby has lost 90% of hearing in left ear and about 20% in right ear. Most of the time he hears radio static in his left ear.
I know there is a surgery, but the few people I know who have had it lost the static sound, but also completely lost their hearing.
Try to cut as much salt from your diet as possible. Excessive salt intake will bring on an attack.
I was thinking of starting a thread like this because I have it too. I have lost almost all my hearing in my left ear and have a ringing sound 24/7. I went months without any attacks, now I am them often, I think because of the weather changes. I take the meclizine every night to keep it at bay. A low salt diet is supposed to help and that is HARD because salt is in just about everything. It can be frustrating because there is no know cause or cure for it. Amazing how fast it can hit you.
Forgot to add, there is a facebook page for those with Meniere's and those studying it. Perhaps you could connect with others there for support and information.
Take the low salt diet seriously. Yes, it is very hard, but do you want to get rid of that insane noise in your ear? If you aren't seriously counting the sodium mgs, you are probably eating too much salt. Yes, it is in almost everything. I discovered that I was eating so much salt that just cutting mine in half has worked. Low sodium potato chips, no sodium peanuts, absolutely no soups, unless you make it yourself. Eating out is difficult, but you learn to make it work to rid yourself of that awful noise. [mod] need at least 10 other posts to make specific recommendations [/mod]
