What are the cafeterias like in hospitals near you? Do they stay open long hours? Is the food good? Reasonable?...All of the hospital cafeterias in my area close right after lunch. (Around 1:30 or so.) So they aren't open for dinner. They have vending machines. One hospital offers free coffee in the dining area when the cafeteria is closed.
Two of them have 24 hr food service but later on it is limited. Both of them have good quality food at cost. I might not like how they prepared something but it is good quality ingrediants. Another one has hired a chef who does very inovative, natural salads, etc. Also very good but I don't know their hours. I have seen various city employees in uniform or postal workers eating in them.
The closest one has certain hrs. (breakfast, lunch, dinner), otherwise vending machines - they have different "stations" now - and aren't inexpensive (which adds up when you're there all day for days on end w/a family member).
