I was not allergic to smoke until living with him for a couple of years. I did not ask him to quit, although I'd like him to for his health also. I asked him to designate another room to smoke in and he won't do it. I'll probably have to live separately as some of you suggested. Thanks everyone for your input.

It sounds like he wants to be in total contol. I know how much you seem to care for him, but your peace of mind and health has to be considered.
I smoke a lot- My eldest daughter moved in recently..she is a former smoker...If she so much as gets a hint of tobacco smoke in the air there is hell to pay. I have my coffee and morning smoke out side..in a comfortable chair...in my house coat...I do sneak the odd one in when she is out of town..I am lazy and like to smoke in total comfort- The best you can do is make your smoker as comfortable as possible- asking them to quit will mean nothing- They have to DECIDE that they want to quit...In the mean time do not harass the smoker- find and prepare a nice place for them to smoke- that does not foul the air supply in the house- a separate room is not enough- find a space outside....Making them nervous will cause them to smoke more- good luck
My doctor tells me that I am weird! 7 months now without a cigarette. AND i have lost 42 pounds! Doctor says most people eat like pigs and gain weight when they quit smoking.
I used to smoke but I limited my smoking to outside or the computer room which was also the dogs room.
I never would smoke in bed, I think that is one of the most dangerous things a smoker can do.
