ive been on birth control for a few months now and have been having a problem with breakthrough bleeding. the first month i took them, i began the pack on the sunday after my period started, and bled every day i took them. my doctor switched me from a low dose pill to a medium dose pill and told me to take two a day until the bleeding stopped, then continue the pack as usual (one a day). I took two a day for three days and didnt bleed for four days after i went back to one pill. i changed doctors and the new doctor told me to stop taking them for a week, then take 3 a day until the bleeding stopped, then 2 a day for 5 days, tben one a day, skip the placebo week and continue one a day with the next pack. my stomach couldnt handle three pills a day for the start of the pack, so since i wasnt bleeding, i took two a day. i was getting very nauseous taking two a day to the point i had to call into work, so i only took two days worth of two a day, then went to one a day. i didnt bleed for over a week until i started spotting a few days ago which is turning back into the bleeding i was having (like a light period). i noticed that both times the bleeding has started, it was a couple hours after some moderate exercise (shoveling my driveway). i know spotting can occur after exercise, but this doesnt stop and lasts the rest of the pill pack. my coc said last time i saw her that if thiw round didnt work she would refer me to a specialist. if im still bleeding tomorrow im going to call the office and see what we can do.
anyone else have a similar experience/advice/ideas?
Birth control pills aren't for everyone. Apparently, they're not for you. You should seek a different form of birth control. If you're not in a committed long-term relationship, consider abstaining until you are. If you're in a long-term committed relationship, then barrier combined with rhythm methods and strict adherence to "personal responsibility" (meaning - don't forget the rubber in the heat of passion) might just end up being your best bet.

All the dose changing was done too soon.
The biggest thing to remember is that the irregular bleeding is not dangerous, although it is aggravating. After four cycles with no missed pills the bleeding will stop for the vast majority of women.
It can take up to 4 mths for your body to get adjusted to the Pill.
You also might find that the first one you try isn't working for you (most drs start off the lowest dose and work their way up). It took me 9 mths and 3 different brands to find the one that worked for me. It was a pain to go thru all of that, but it was well worth it. I've been on my current brand for over a year and have no issues whatsoever. (knock on wood!!)
If you can, I would try a different form, perhaps an IUD? I had a hard time with birth control pills after I had my kids. I couldn't settle in on any that worked for me, even after giving it several months. Since I am married, I had hubby get snipped, problem solved.
my first doctor is the one who decided to switch so soon. im not completely against the idea of waiting it out (or at least trying to), but i now have two different doctors who seem to think something isnt right. as it stands, as a form of birth control, these pills are working great - my sex life has pretty much hit a brick wall.

can I ask how old you are? If you're in your 30s you could be in peri-menopause and not even know it!! If you are in that age range and your dr hasn't tested your FSH level, ask him/her to do it.
One pill we chanaged after 2 mths becaused the side effects were making me into a crazy person And literally on day two of new ones, I was like a totally new person....it was awesome!
mid 20s...all i want is something that doesnt make me sick or bleed that will help me not get pregnant. im in a relationship and we use condoms, but we both like the idea of a second form of bc. i prefer something hormonal because my periods arent very predictable and the pill makes them lighter too. most of the non hormonal forms seem like they would decrease the spontaneity
Are you taking the pill at the same time every day? Not doing so can cause break-through bleeding.
within 15 minutes, the lastest ive been was 45 minutes once. never missed a pill. id say its heavier than spotting but lighter than most days of my period (but i have heavier periods). the info packet from the pharmacy says to call the doctor if it lasts more than 7 days
