I am 80 and have been taking antioxidants for 23 yrs and my eyes are good. Also take other eye supplements and fish oil too and at this point hardly go to doctors .. Dr. Google is my good doc.
Wear sunglasses outside sun or not. And if you smoke, STOP.

I have been on Ocuvite 50+ for 11 years now since spots were first detected in left eye only. Annual exams show no increase.
I also take D3 & B12 vitamins, but for different reasons.
I would not start to panic unless the Amsler grid starts showing new spots.
I am 54 - My mother has MD and her sister does too. Mom can still see at 83 but she can't drive anymore. Aunt went legally blind within 6 months of diagnosis. Paternal grandfather went blind from it. I had a base Line scan 2 weeks ago and the Opthamologist said to eat Anti Oxidate - and take fish oil supplements - to stop Smoking if I smoke (which I never have) - and to get my eyes dilated every year.
Thanks, everyone. I am over my initial panic. I am showing no overt signs of the disease. Like I said, he was looking for something else when he found it. I am taking the AREDS2 + multivitamins and fish oil. If this is the worst I ever face, I will be content. AMSLER grid is just a grid - no blanks, no wavy lines.
OP: just continue to follow your doctor's orders (whether you see an Ophthalmologist or Optometrist).
Ensure you get a thorough eye exam ever year.
And, research, research, and research some more to learn all you can about MD.
