Note that this is a toxic hepatitis, not viral. It is a direct effect of the product on the liver, not an infection.

Supplements should indeed be subject to regulation. Many contain substances not on the label or do not contain the substance on the label in the amount claimed.

The FDA can do nothing with "supplements" until they harm someone. The people who make them are, by law, not required to show they are safe or even useful.

Again I say the FDA needs to step up. They could do something regarding supplements if they choose to.

A proven weight loss method -- death! Wow - this is alarming. I do take certain vitamins to boost my weak immune system. But I know it has its own risk as does taking over the counter pain meds.

They could do something only if Congress changes the law.

The FDA is NOT to blame. They can't just "step up" where they have no legal justification to do so. Problem lies with the manufacturer and the public that is willing to purchase unregulated supplements.

fact is lots of people are not very intelligent and too trusting or both.
The FDA should be there to protect not only,but especially that type person; and everyone.

The FDA would be happy to do that. In regard to supplements, it is hampered by laws which prevents it from doing so.
