Seem to recall that the last time I used aspirin, decades ago, a recommended dosage was entered on the package. Nowadays, there is all kinds of information: warnings, uses, strength, etc., but no dosage recommendations. Assume this is because aspirin today has multiple uses whereas back in the day the focus was pain, and to a lesser degree as an anti-pyretic.

My problem is a nagging muscle strain in the lower paravertebral area, keeps me awake at nite. Trusty search engine revealed no information as to recommended dosage for pain relief, other than to refer to the package, huh??? or ask your doc.

Each tablet is 325mg. Need to know how many to take at a time, when they should be repeated, and maximum recommended dosage within 24 hrs. Other than being over age 60, I don't carry any of the red flags like a hx. of stomach ulcers, blood thinners, or heavy alcohol use.

I try one pill (at a time) of each of the over-the-counter pain medicines and see which works best for a specific pain (which in my case could be a smashed-with-hammer finger, toothache, back pain, muscle pain, joint pain, etc.)

I've found that one will work better than others. But you have...

Aspirin
Acetaminophen (Tylenol)
Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)
Naproxen (Aleve)

Then if you need to take a lot of one every single night, check with your doctor. But if you find one which works better than another, possibly a lower dosage (fewer pills) will work. And in my view, the fewer pills I am taking, the better!

The adult dose for pain is two 325 mg tablets of aspirin.

I have a pretty bad case of Peripheral Neuropathy and creaky joints here and there. I mainly rely on aspirin for pain relief.....both topical and oral.

Bayer sells 500mg pills...with a max dosage for adults of 2 pills, or 1 gram at a time. The maximum adult aspirin dosage for a 24 hour period is a total of 4 grams.

I will take 1 gram at a time when needed.....never had a problem. I also find topical aspirin GREAT because it is very localized and to the point......and you avoid the stress that oral dosing puts on your stomach.

The proper dosage is on the label, it is required to be on the label, you may just have to search for it a bit or there may be a double label and the top layer has to be peeled back to reveal the bottom layer of the label.

You can also do a search on google and find it there.

Be very careful with aspirin. I took a significant amount, not exceeding 'recommended amounts' and ended up with a perforated ulcer. Nurse asked about level of pain 1 to 10. I found out what a 10 was when they asked me to drink a dye.
