If it comes and goes, that may be a good sign that it might go away. My pain started one day and then stayed with me (to varying degrees throughout the day) for 8 full months until my surgery. I'd get a day or two relief after the two steroid injections I had, but that was it. To me, those failures were another sign that pointed to needing surgery.
The suggestions above for piriformis stretches is a good one. Check Google or You Tube for stretches and exercises for sciatica. Work on your core. That will help you in the long run.
