I love them but they are ridiculously expensive.

I've been finding them for 25 cents each at the little Mexican grocery store where my kids like to get baked goods, but avocados have too many calories for me to fit a whole avocado into my daily diet.

I try to keep them in the daily diet (among other things, they do wonders for the lower digestive tract) but it is difficult to keep up with them.

Two things:

First, I tend to eat them plain. No salad dressing. Just either into the salad to be mashed or by themselves if I need a quick meal.

Secondly, remember to use a spoon to get the pit out. I've had two dancing friends who had to head to the ER because the knife slipped.

They've been randomly on sale here for anywhere from 88 cents to $1 each.

I LOVE avocados. I just cut one in half, remove the pit, salt and pepper it, and eat with a spoon.

They're so good for you, but like others have said they are calorie dense. Half of one is a better portion size for me and since cost is a factor for you this might work for you as well.

I cut it in half and remove the seed. I eat half with a little salt and pepper. The other half won't make it to the next day if you just put it in the fridge. But if you put a little lemon juice on it oxidation won't happen very quickly and you'll have a fresh (although slightly lemon flavored) avocado half for a snack tomorrow.

I have a small atomizer in the fridge full of lemon juice just for spritzing on things for this exact purpose.

Leave the seed in the half you're putting in the fridge, and cover the cut surface tightly with plastic wrap, and it won't turn brown.

I would, but they don't taste good to me. They're okay as a small component of a larger dish, but I'll usually give mine to DH. He adores them.

Oh, and you should not eat avocados if you have a latex allergy.
