Depends on what they meant, you really should have asked the surgeon what they were talking about. However, often if you have certain conditions, (like what Oldgardner mentioned) they will want the specialist treating you for that condition to clear you for the surgery. As mentioned a cardiologist may check to make sure your in good shape for surgery and maybe even have you stop certain medication before the surgery. But, in the end, your really need to ask the person requesting things if you don't know what they are talking about.
they just want to make sure you can tolerate the anesthesia and operation. They always check lungs and heart and do blood work prior to surgery! They're trying to help you.....if you have a lung issue or heart problem, they could kill you....and they don't like doing that!
