This started happening this year. My left foot feels numb and cold.. like blood flow is cut off . It's not blue yet and I can still feel things but I'm getting very concerned. I asked my doctor, a sports doctor, and an acupuncturist and they all said the same thing... poor blood circulation... but none of them gave me a solution. My sports doctor said the next step would send me to the lab and have them do tests but they probably won't find anything. I'm also only 29 so they said I'm too young to have "any real problems".
I think there's tightness in my hips and calves, because I feel tightness in my shoulders and jaws too. My acupuncturist says they're all connected. The only things that make me feel better are stepping on a foan roller and rolling my foot out, and massaging my foot. But as soon as I stop, the numbness returns. I can't roll and massage my foot constantly throughout the day. It's not always numb. I think it's worse when I wear shoes but it still happens when I don't. I also workout and now I can't do things like Olympic split squats or lunges because my foot gets so numb it hurts and my toes hurt. I feel sore around my ankles and calves. I'm terribly concerned and I don't know what to do. I'm afraid it will get worse and I won't be able to walk.
They never ran any tests. They said that would be the next step but their guess is they wouldn't find anything. -.-
I've been doing some internet searching and diabetes came up a lot. No, I don't have diabetes... not that I know of. I'm a healthy 29 year old. No high blood pressure or obesity either. I'm at a healthy weight and workout regularly and eat healthy. I don't even eat fast food.
Maybe you have a magnesium deficiency? It is very common. You can always try taking a good magnesium supplement like magnesium glycinate or magnesium malate. I buy them on Amazon and they have helped us with foot and leg cramps and even to get a better night sleep.
I just saw my acupuncturist again and he thinks it's tightness from my lower back/hips. He knows I weight train 5-6 days a week. I went to him because I recently injured myself from lifting. He thinks I've been overtraining and that I need to stretch more.
I just looked at the MS symptoms. I don't have the other symptoms like blurry vision or vertigo. I'll try stretching every hour every day for the next few weeks and see if that does anything. If not, I'll get tested for MS and Diabetes.
A few things to think about:
First numb does not equal pain. Numb means you can't feel your feet. So it is lack of feeling or pain? When you touch your foot can you feel the touch?
Press down on foot with finger. Does the color change from blue to white? How long does it take to turn back to blue? Does position of foot effect color like blue when standing but white when elevated?
Any swelling in foot or leg?
Is the foot your lunge foot or back foot when you lift?
Have you lost strength in that ankle? Can you walk on your heels and tip toe walk?
Try bending forward 10 times, does it change the pain? Stand up with hands behind back at sacral area and lean back slightly to look at ceiling 10 times does that change pain?
Any trauma to the area? Drop anything on it over the past few months even if you think it fully healed?
Want to see if it is nerve, disk, or vascular cause. EMG can rule out nerves, sonogram can check blood flow.
I wonder if I have sciatica. I feel soreness where my ankle meets my foot. I just watched this video and applied the techniques to my foot and I immediately felt relief up to my knee and feel a lot better now. I also saw a tip about getting arch support for the balls of my feet when working out. Going to try that too.
