Since no one here knows me, I am going to throw out this somewhat embarrassing question to the City-Data public... I have been suffering from diarrhea once a day, usually mid afternoon. The other one or two other bowel movements are normal. I have no other symptoms such as abdominal pain or nausea. This has been going on for a week. I hate to go to the doctor because I otherwise seem healthy. Plus, gong to the doctor would require that I get in my car, back out of the driveway, and travel somewhere and in addition to diarrhea, I also suffer from modest laziness. Anyway, if anyone has any ideas or suggestions (for the diarrhea (not for the laziness), I would appreciate it.

It sure sounds like " Spastic Colon" histrionically to me.. Been there done ( that start about 50 years ago for me) that, so maybe this link help you decipher how you fit into that spectrum~~ Best of Luck!
just a snippet~~ do read because there's some good advice!!
Quote:
Points to Remember about a Spastic Colon
* Spastic Colon is a functional disorder in which the bowel doesn't work as it should.
* Spastic Colon can cause cramping, bloating, gas, diarrhea, and constipation.
* Spastic Colon does not damage the bowel.
* Spastic Colon cannot be self-diagnosed.
* A doctor should diagnose Spastic Colon based on your symptoms and the elimination of other possible diseases through various medical tests.
* Stress and foods (particularly fats, insoluble fibers, and GI irritants) can trigger symptoms, but the underlying pathology of Spastic Colon is caused by a brain-gut dysfunction.
Once you have a firm Spastic Colon diagnosis, take heart. While there is no cure yet, there are many ways to successfully manage - and prevent - all Spastic Colon symptoms. You can control your Spastic Colon, not vice versa.
Thought I would add this link ( Irritable Bowel Syndrome too) which could be helpful since I have no idea your age bracket!! Please do rule out things link Chron's and many other things before you decide what it's signifying!!
The Facts
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common disorder of the intestine, causing abdominal pain with constipation, diarrhea, or alternating periods of both. IBS is also known as spastic colon or spastic bowel (terms that have fallen out of favour now) and functional bowel disorder. It's sometimes mistaken for colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease that is actually a more serious condition involving damage to the colon. IBS doesn't do any damage to the colon.
IBS affects about 20% of the population and is second only to the common cold as the most frequent cause of days lost to work and school. IBS symptoms can disappear for periods of time and then return.
Unlike inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease), IBS brings no extra risk of cancer of the colon. However, if symptoms of IBS begin in people over age 50, it's best to rule out polyps and colon cancer by having a direct inspection of the lower bowel done by a doctor.

No one here can diagnose your problem...call your MD.
Coffee can cause diarrhea? Sorry if I'm overstepping here, but this is really interesting to me.
Oh sure. Many people drink coffee because it keeps them regular. It's pretty easy for that to escalate into diarrhea. I drank coffee for years with no problems but eventually had to quit - for this reason among others.
