Looking for a little advice, and thought I would start here. I am a 52 year old male that suffers with spinal osteoarthritis. I've been told by specialists at Mass General that it is one of the worse cases they have seen in a man my age. My activities are limited to say the least. My family and I moved to Florida from New England 5 years ago. I will admit I felt better in Florida, 6 months a year. I was able to use our pool daily during warm days, so that was a positive. What I hated was the heat and humidity. I felt terrible physically when the humidity hit, sweated constantly, had difficulty breathing, on and on. That combined with the concrete jungle and family matters in New England caused us to head back to the Northeast. Since our return, my back has gotten considerably worse. The cold damp days, the humid summers....wasn't like that 10 yrs ago....have left me with days where I am barely able to walk. Maybe time to move on? My wife works for the Federal Govt., so we have the option to move her position if wanted. Florida and the south is a better option for my condition I guess, but I don't think I can do the humidity again! We have thought about going west, to a dry and warm climate.....but really don't know anyone out west for advice. My Drs. won't say one way or the other if weather really actually effects my condition. We have actually looked at homes with indoor pools in our area, and surprisingly you can find one reasonably. Is that the better route?
Weather is a huge factor on the arthritis issues. I live in So. Calif and CA is basically desert to the sea...I live near the sea so it's damper but the climate is ideal and no humidity. Many are heading to NV, AZ and the more western states for a dryer weather. Arthritis is here to stay and we have to do all we can to manage what we live with. I'm headed to 80 and arthritis first hit my lower back at about 18....so a lot of years.
I've lived in NO humidity and high humidity and neither has made a whit of difference in my advancing OA. IMO, weather is not going to affect deteriorating joints (or spine).
OA is mysterious and seems not much known about it. So my "advice" would be live where you like for other reasons.
Others might chime in with "feeling the weather in their joints" but not sure if that is the same thing.
Sorry for your spinal OA! I think that is the worst in that you would always feel it, whereas I can put my limbs on "ignore" while limiting movement....

That thick humidity can sure make life more uncomfortable...I've experienced that too living in the East for first 1/4 of my life and even visiting FL...loved FL beaches when I was 18+ but now, nope.
I have found as I get older I am less able to tolerate the heat and humidity (which is not good because I live in Hawaii).
We are moving, and weather was a factor because too much cold will probably cause it's own set of problems. We chose an area more temperate-ish...... The winters are cold (20-30 degrees), but not wet or a lot of snow, and the summer can be hot, but again, not a lot of humidity. I seem to well despite the RA on all the visits.

Thank you all for your responses. I've done my fair share of research for a while, and just thought I would try and get others opinions. I know it may very well be climate has no effect on OA, but I do know there were many days in the summer months in Florida where I felt just plain terrible. The heat and humidity, coupled with my medications, were awful. I can't ever go through that again. One thing I always remember is after leaving Florida, and before returning to Connecticut, my family and I pent about 8 months in New Hampshire, near the White Mountains. Granted we didn't spend a winter there, but the spring, summer, and fall we spent there I felt wonderful. Cool temperatures, clean air, some warm summer days but not too many humid days. I often thought it was because like a vacation away from Florida, that's why I felt so good. Maybe there was more to it? I can say for certain I loved being there more than any other place we lived.

I have arthritis, and more than the temperature or constant weather in an area, I find that I'm more affected by weather changes. We've had rain move in and out all week, and my joints ache.
OA is affected by both humidity AND barometric pressure. The moisture we can deal with but the pressure is another story. Of the two barometric pressure is the worst.
