Every time you see something obvious on a warning label it means that someone has sued the company over doing that very stupid thing. Or the company is afraid of being sued because someone will do that very stupid thing.
Litigation is reason why companies must state the obvious. Never underestimate the stupidity of the average human.
and reward them by putting labels on things. I guess common knowledge that stupid things will hurt you got lost over past 100 years.
I guess if there's a buck to be made over claiming one was not warned, so couldn't possibly realize the harm in not
taking precautions with hot coffee, eating the little dessicant packages in a bottle of pills ( those little things labeled "do not eat",)or using a chainsaw to cut a sandwich in half, that sort of thing, companies will engage in all those butt covering warning labels in their attempts to limit their liability against good old fashioned stupid.
Food labeling laws cover all packaged foods, so you will see warning labels on the obvious ones like hardboiled eggs.
In my opinion, food labeling laws haven't gone far enough yet. I have a fairly common food allergy that requires labeling, but there are a lot of ambiguous ingredients in food that can contain my allergen without having to be labeled as such.
