I always loved cold showers, they were super invigorating, but I've noticed that lately they just leave me without any strenth for the rest of the day.

So I am not sure if it's aging (I am 41), or some metabolic/hormonal change or what.

Does anyone feel the same?

The invigoration you feel initially is a metabolic surge in response to the cold water. A mild form of cold immersion shock. Heart rate goes up, respiratory rate goes up, BP goes up. There's the effect of adrenaline. All part of the attempt to resist shock and warm your core up again. It is temporary. As time goes on your metabolism drops again, the byproducts of the adrenaline need to be metabolized, and you may end up feeling fatigued from the "shock" and the power surge reaction to it.

I've fallen in very cold water a couple of times and also gotten very hypothermic while mountain climbing. Even after I warmed up again I was sleepy and lethargic for quite a while afterwards.

Maybe time to stop taking freezing showers????

I get tired and drowsy when taking long, hot showers, so I pick and choose when I take them!
