That could happen from reflux as well, and he wouldn’t necessarily need a study. I was having a combo problem with anxiety/reflux and once I got the reflux under control, the anxiety issues also improved. Sometimes if it is LPR (the silent type), it can be harder to recognize. Mine eventually turned into the non-silent type and I realized what it was. However, going to the doctor is the first step, not a sleep study. There are also cheap alarms like like the sleep cycle alarm that will measure your sleep and say when you are actually sleeping.
