I just tested positive for Covid & I have no symptoms. It was done as part of a required screening to travel....so I was totally surprised & devastated. I can’t believe that I really have it...AND my fiancé was negative. Has anybody else been tested that thinks it was a false positive?

Thank you.

Yes. I have heard of some false positives. Good Luck!

Thank you...I hope so too. I want to have another test because I can’t believe I would have no symptoms. I just found out I need to ask about the number of cycles....or the threshold that was used. This is not the way I wanted to start our new year.

False positives do happen - not test is perfect, as you know.

But, if it is true, at least you're not having trouble breathing so - big sigh of relief?

My niece, an RN, tested positive but didn't develop symptoms until a few days later. Husband and children were negative. Turned out to be mild case -- cough for a few days -- but no other symptoms.

College friend I chatted with on Christmas tested positive. No symptoms. He re-did the test which was also positive. Still no notable symptoms, but he had self-isolated and contacted a couple of people he'd been in close contact with as per guidelines. The last thing he wanted was to unknowingly pass it to someone more vulnerable. If it was a false positive all that happened was inconvenience. If it wasn't a false positive he now knows two things...that he has some level of immunity for a while and that the bug stopped there.

I can’t believe I would have no symptoms.

Why? Plenty of people - perhaps half or more - have no symptoms, and never have them. See cruise ship and navy ship data.

Of course, it could be a false positive - but probably not twice. Far more likely you simply fall in to the half with no symptoms.

Yes I've read about the number of cycles several times, I believe any more than 25 or 30 will lead to false positives, but please research it. So sorry that happened.
