However - that claim would be incorrect, since most people who smoke cannabis aren't psychotic.

Also, since most people who smoke cannabis aren't psychotic, the first hypothesis is also proven inaccurate.

What MIGHT actually make sense, would be this claim:

People who are already suffering from psychosis, are more likely to turn to cannabis as a self-treatment and preventative, than people who aren't.

And that would make sense because people who aren't suffering from psychosis, don't need to be treated for psychosis.
So a large percentage of smokers are attempting to self treat mental disorders? We are to believe THAT is the basis of this study?

Because it adds something to life that wasn’t already there?

We’ve all agreed doing anything in excess isn’t good, whether it’s pot, junk food, drinking. All have long term negative consequences if used “heavily”. In fact I’d argue that of the 3, heavy drinking has the most severe long term consequences. The biggest difference between pot and junk food and drinking is that pot is the only one of the three that does have medicinal value, and it’s the only one you can get arrested for as an adult.

Most people with untreated disorders that affect the brain including things like ADD and depression, self-medicate with a wide variety of substances from pot to food to caffeine, etc.

This is starting to sound like rubbish logic. Anything possibly indicating something negative about marijuana is continually dismissed as....well the problem was already there...not the precious marijuana’s fault.

Cannabis has reached sainthood for some people.

We live in a society where mental health problems are more common than ever....and likely more marijuana consumed than ever.

The powers of marijuana don’t seem to be mentally healing us.

So pot can be dangerous if consumed too much? I would like to see studies on what amount leads to negative consequences. If it’s harmless it’s harmless.

you seem to be misunderstanding the purpose and definition of self-medication in this context. for a lot of these people it's not to "fix", it's avoidance.

for others (non-selfmedicators/recreational users) it's just like having a few drinks on Friday and/or Saturday.

get over yourself.

Which is irrelevant when it comes to understanding both the potential negative impacts of marijuana use in modern society. You have to open your mind to what may be uncomfortable.

no, you don't get to disregard a subset of users because it doesn't fit your theory
