This was a foot specialist surgeon to look at mysterious intermittent pain in my right foot.
He felt around a little bit, he had looked at the xrays I provided and said we can't tell anything until you get an MRI. He seemed impatient and frustrated.
Perhaps true, perhaps not.
What in retrospect I should have done:
"While I am disappointed to have made this trip for nothing it seems clear this appointment should be cancelled." Stated calmly as I put my shoe and sock back on and head towards the door.
What I did do: I talked to the very intelligent manager of the orthopedic practice who agreed that such behavior certainly was not confidence inspiring. I told her I really did not want to blast the internet with 1* star reviews, I had had excellent experiences with their senior ortho expert over the years and a great relationship with the young surgeon who did my knee replacement, but I don't want to go any further with this guy even if he is their foot specialist. So when my MRI is lined up -- which didn't work out at the MRI facility they own, another disaster story -- I will consult with the senior ortho guy who is retired from performing surgery but bought me ten years before knee replacement with a relatively minor surgery and refused to perform shoulder surgery despite my being prepared for a long difficult recovery. He sent me to their PT facility and there I went to a gym and trainer and my shoulder is still much better and something I can live with. GOOD CALL!
Once I have a handle on what is going on should surgery be needed it will probably be somewhere else because i think they only have one foot guy.
Life is far to short to have a doctor who is not an excellent fit. At age 75 with previous cardiac arrest and various old age challenges I can say that all my patient/doctor relationships are excellent having nipped this one in the bud.
