I had low vitamin D for many years now. It's due to not getting enough sun but I can't due to eczema and other skin conditions. Every time I take vitamin D supplements it makes another chronic condition even worse which ends up causing me to lose time from work. I thought it was just a coincidence at first. But years later the same thing happens. It's the supplements. Can low vitamin D cause the bones to get so weak that injuries can occur easier and take long to recover? Can it cause the back to get injured? I heard a loud pop in back of my top back weeks ago. Ever since then I have back pain when using those muscles and left arm also hurts and feels weak when using it. I feel like I am easily getting injured now for no reason since I didn't do anything incorrect when it happened. That part of upper back still feels swollen.

Can you eat foods enhanced with extra Vitamin D? There are calcium supplements which don't require the participation of Vitamin D or magnesium for better calcium absorption, I've taken them for years.

My doctors said I can't eat enough foods to get my vitamin D normal. I only eat plant based. I can eat all the vitamin D foods and it still won't be enough my doctors said. Magnesium kidney specialists told me to avoid due to chronic kidney disease.

You need sunlight on your skin PLUS healthy kidneys to make effective Vit. D levels.... Kidney pts also have problems with handling Ca & P properly, so are even more prone to bone problems (osteoporosis & pathological fractures) with or without Vit D abnormalities.

Maybe EZorb would help you, check out EZorb with your doctor if you decide to try it.

Calcium supplements don't provide Vitamin D. Calcium is calcium. Vitamin D is vitamin D. It's like suggesting that if you are low in protein you should eat candy.

The person in the original post is asking about vitamin D.

The answer is: severe vitamin D deficiency causes an illness called rickets. And rickets can absolutely cause injury.

Your physician will know if you have rickets. And if you do, then you need vitamin D. Low vitamin D doesn't cause injury. It causes illnesses that contribute to injury.

The OP asked about low vitamin D and weak bones. if the OP is low in vitamin D and taking calcium supplements that require the participation of vitamin D for absorption, the OP would be low in calcium AND vitamin D and in danger of getting osteoporosis the way I see it. That's why I recommended Ezorb calcium supplements which don't require vitamin D so the OP doesn't lose bone density. Other posters also pointed out the OP might develop osteoporosis due to not absorbing calcium because of a kidney condition, but EZorb doesn't affect the kidneys, so I thought Ezorb might be helpful for the OP to try.

Dangerously false info. Readers Beware!

Rickets is the bone disease caused by low Vit D in developing bones, ie- in kids.
Osteomalacia is the disease caused by low Vit D in adults.

Old bone is constantly being absorbed and new bone being laid down throughout our lives. As we age, the rate of new bone replacement slows more than the absorption part, so our bones get weaker. Problems with PTH/Calcitonin/Ca & P levels/Vit D affect the relative balance between the two parts of the process.
