My feeling is, doctors and nutritionists only relay what they have been taught. They don't do their own research. They think oatmeal is good for you and reduces cholesterol.
I loved the comment by one doctor that he was board certified in nutrition years ago and since learned every answer he gave on the test was wrong.
Today, a famous vegan influencer, Zhanna D'Art, died of starvation. She was 39. LINK
Doctor Elie Jarrouge, a metabolic health doctor, made this tongue in cheek assessment: Did you know? Humans who had been eating meat and saturated fat since the beginning of time were doing it wrong. It turns out we all have statin deficiency and we needed seed oils to lower LDL and heart disease risk. Thank God for the factories making soybean oil and fake meat.
"The study found that men who have adopted all eight habits at the age of 40 would be predicted to live 24 years longer, on average, than men who adopted none of these habits."
My family tends to live to the 100yo range which I think is curse, so forget about trying to extend my life by 24 years, I am trying to find ways to reduce it, lol.
Mine too so I'm trying to stay healthy the whole way, lol. I would hate being sick and in pain for 30 years.

Im hoping my lack of concern will aid in not being around those 30 years, lol. It could very well backfire, but only time will tell! I am a little unique when it comes to this subject but I have no intentions of growing old. My wife, as with many of my thoughts just rolls her eyes and likes to joke about how much longer I have left.

No, doctors don't know it all. True. I look at many different sources for food and nutrition information. And i'm not vegan. But i also don't eat red meat all day for every meal. A vegan who died of starvation was not very intelligent. There are strong vegan athletes (including Venus Williams). Where do you get your nutrition advice?
I'm in my 60s, so i've already ingested so much poison in my life that it's probably already too late. But at least i can try a bit. I grew up in the shadow of a poisonous DuPont plant in NJ, so i feel like that will contribute to my cancers more than anything i've eaten or will eat. But i do try.
All the evidence for meat causing CRC comes from observational database, and we cannot draw causality inferences from them. No matter, the media likes to make everything sensationalized with eye catchy titles like red meat causes cancer.
Here are some studies, all saying different things:
Yes, you can find studies giving several opinions. Most say that you can eat a couple servings a week, and they should not be processed meats. Not for every meal. And that you should also include a lot of fiber (ie. fibrous vegetables) in your diet along with the meat. This is mostly for the colon cancer.
I had a sister and aunt both get breast cancer in their early 40s. I'm older than that now, but have many other family members who have had breast cancer.
My mother had colon cancer. People who have had heart disease in their family also need to watch, of course. But that's up to them. I'm concerned since i already feel like it's in my genes. I've been to a breast cancer specialist to discuss it. (and no my sister did not have the brca1 gene, so i didn't pay for the testing as it wasn't covered at the time - since she did not have it)
I urge common sense approach to the sun. 15-30 minutes per day doesn't sound very much like common sense, for a species who has evolved to be outside. Instead, if you're really fair skinned, and live in a latitude below 35N, I would take steps to avoid the sun during peak strength, but still get plenty of sun exposure during the morning and evening. Like everything in life, it's about tradeoffs. The sun has numerous benefits for our overall health, we need to balance those with the risk of skin cancer.
Not to mention, the link between sun exposure and the deadly form of skin cancer known as cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM) is not clear, even though to the layman public it's often presented as such. I urge everyone interested to read this piece: https://www.frontiersin.org/articles...018.00235/full which summarizes what we know and don't know about sun exposure and CMM.
Is I researched this issue thoroughly, having had skin cancer. Several years ago, not gonna look it up for this thread. 15-30 min is plenty for most people. Supplement with 1000-2000 iu Vit D cholecalciferol a day. The toxicity level for vit D is quite high.
and most importantly beyond all the suggestions given..

Let's just say 15-30 minutes wouldn't be enough for me. And I'm of European descent and in the tropics. My skin is now a nice bronze. I spend at least 1 hour a day in the ocean (usually surfing) and more walking around. When I'm in a place with little sun, i notice my energy levels drop quickly. I love the sun.
As for Vit D supplementation, you can start low (1000-2000 iu) for a month and take your blood work, and then up as needed. I know people who take 10,000 IU a day to keep normal levels. It depends on how well you absorb it in the gut. Also, don't take it on an a empty stomach, it's best absorbed through a meal with a lot of fat.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!
