I find myself guilty of using hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes, etc, so this concerns me as well. I remember in school, touching everything and going right to lunch and eating with no problems. There were no superbugs or stomach virus (rarely), etc. Now we have overused antibiotics and I firmly believe we have overused hand sanitizer, wipes, which has contributed to the problem. I guess my question is, when did we all become so afraid of germs? I have been unlucky enough to get the stomach bug 2 years in a row and hope and pray to God I don't get a third. I can see this problem getting worse, so can we stop it or is it too late?

What's unbelievable to me is the number of folks who sneeze, yawn and cough without bothering to cover their mouths. Adults and children alike I see doing this all the time. Now that we have these superstrains of viruses like MRSA and bird flu, people please, sneeze into a tissue.

Teach the kids to try not to touch door knobs and toilet handles in public places. Even grocery cart handles.

LOL, I'm beginning to feel like Howard Hughs sometimes .. as I make the mad dash to the bathroom to wash my hands immedietely upon entering the house, when I've been out and about trapesing around in the big old world.

It's true though. Holding onto a railing, pushing a grocery cart, whatever. How many sneezes and snotty noses and hands were there before mine?

Prevention is cure, right?

I don't know about germs, but I see lots of people afraid of bugs, so afraid that they will fill up their home with pesticides in order to "stay safe."

If they only truly knew how many bugs they were eating and living with on a daily basis!

Yup. It's a good thing we're not looking at our skin through a microscope!

Or that nest we refer to as a pillow, lol.

Stop doing that so much. You are just setting yourself up to be sick. Your body needs little doses of germs to strengthen the immune system. And why do you think slathering yourself with toxic chemicals is better than small amt germ exposure?

I clean the house but I dont freak about touching things. I live in a city near hospitals and uni...I havent had the flu or a real sickness in....Well god...I cant even remember. I dont get flu shots either.
Eat your veggies and wash your hands before eating and you will live.

I think a healthy diet and support of your body from within is more important than sterilizing the enviro around you.

So right. We do need some exposure to germs to keep our immune systems strong. I've never gotten a flu shot and I tend to get sick way less than friends of mine who do get them. Go figure.

I became a germaphobe when I realized how nasty people have become. Growing up I rarely saw anyone leave a public restroom without washing their hands. Now, I am shocked when I do see people washing their hands. Wanna be scared? Go into a busy restroom at your local grocery store and watch how many leave without doing it. Then watch them head on over to the produce section and start digging around in the fruits and veggies. Gah.

I do tend to be a bit paranoid about germs but having Epstein Barr it seems like if I am even close to someone with a bug I will catch it from them bigtime. No fun at all. I swear I am afraid I will eventually turn into Michael Jackson ( not in the kiddie molesting sense) and never go out without a mask lol.

We became germaphobes when corporations like Clorox started scaring us into thinking we're going to die if we don't douse everything we own -- including ourselves -- with one of their noxious products.

You don't need to kill the germs. You just need to wash them away.
