Dear all,
One of our best friends has severe aplasmic anemia for many years. He got eventually a donor with a good match. This great news brings also worries: Can he get it through for the procedure? what is the successful rate after transplantation? how to read the HLA matching? Though the doctor will more details. As a friend, I would like to know about the disease. Anyone can direct me for some good websites?
Thanks,
Sand
Why in gods name are you asking about this in a free forum? Advice here is worth exactly what you paid for it anyways, less so for medical procedures. You should be asking a doctor about this, mostly because random people don't have access to people's medical history. I'm not sure why anyone cares about HLA matching...the hospital should take care of it, it's like watching surgery, if the hospital expects you to do anything about it they are insane.
Subsound, this site was pop up from a medical forum linked. I do not know why. Nevertheless, i did not ask for any advices from you, the knowledge you certainly do not have, but someone may with similar experience and knowing where to ask.
Thanks Lilly 12103 for your kind words, which make me feel much better.
A bone marrow transplant (BMT) is also quite a serious, lengthy and risky procedure. The risks involved depend, to some extent, on the precise kind of BMT that's being planned. And they range in severity from the merely annoying to life-threatening.
There's no easy way to explain this complex process or the theory behind it. What your friend should be doing is having her transplant at a center that does A LOT of them.
