first my daughter, then myself ended up with thyroid nodules. We both had biopsies. They take about 5 minutes or less. I got the results back the next day. All is fine. The biopsy will indicate whether it's cancer or not. It's done by needle aspiration. Uncomfortable but not really painful. No recommendations for me to get anythng else done except blood test once a year to test levels.
My daughter's wasn't cancer but due to the number of nodules on her thyroid(right side) she began to experience discomforrt so they removed part of her thyroid.
Thyriod cancer is rare but also is THE most curable cancer; according to any doctor I ever spoke to. One Endocrinologist said to me," If anyone had to choose a cancer to have-select thyroid cancer. 99% cure rate.
Try to not stress. The nodule is already there. Doubtful it's cancer, but worst case scenario would indicate if you have cancer ,it would be treatable.

How often do these things come back negative (nothing to be worried about)? Has anyone had a biopsy then received results that showed nothing to be worried about. does that ever happen?
I'm concerned that most biopsies will return stating that it is "unknown" therefore a surgeon needs to go in and have tests done to evaluate the lump to know for sure if it is cancerous.
Is it just routine that after a biopsy you can expect there will always be a strong recommendation of surgical excision to "know for sure".
Are there any of you out there who have had a biopsy and that was the end of it? At least for now, and scheduled to be tested again at some later date?
