Thanks for all the info, Arizona 1, but I am still moving forward with my plan to cut myself off from people as much as I can until I get that vaccine.
I do know it's a mild strain. I also know I've been getting a vaccine every year for the past 25. The year before I got the 1st vaccine (of 25) I got very sick from the flu. Since then, yeah, I've been sick but recovered within a week or so. I went for six months from that flu back in 1984--1985 (that I wasn't vaccinated for) having breathing problems.
If one is in good health with no underlying conditions, I say not too much to worry about. The odds of getting it are probably less than getting killed in a car accident (just guessing on this). 36,000 people die of the flu anyway, but they are usually the elderly. But if one has an underlying condition (and this IS a novel virus), I say plenty to worry about. I think this is attracting so much attention as it's a novel virus, it's taking way too long to roll out the vaccine, no one has immunity to it (unless over 65) and even healthy young people are dying. 45% of those who have died have had no underlying condition. So I can understand why this is grabbing headlines.
If you want to come back and assuage this writer's fears, that would be great. I just think I'm right about this. And the ten things I posted DO still apply.
